Requirements for the Undergraduate Major: Combined B.A./M.A. Program

Candidates for departmental honors may be admitted to a special four-year B.A./M.A. program upon recommendation of the department and the Graduate School. Application must be made by May 1 proceeding the senior year. Students must complete requirements A-E as described in the requirements for degree of Bachelor of Arts. Additionally, a 130-level organic course, another 140-level physical course chosen from among CHEM 141a, 142a and 143b, one additional 100-level chemistry course (or one of CHEM 39b, 59a or 59b), and two other 100-level courses from the School of Science must be taken. The above five courses may not also be counted toward the major requirement. Grades of B- or better are required in the 100-level science courses. Candidates should read the section "Dual Bachelor's/Master's Degree Programs" under the heading "Special Academic Opportunities" in the current University Bulletin. Most notable are the three-year residence requirement and the required total of 38 courses only four of which may come from AP/IB credits, consistent with university regulations.
